Passed on: January 21st, 2015
Passed peacefully away, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, at his residence in Chancellor Park on January 21, 2015. Michael (Mike) was in his 91st year. He left his beloved birthplace of St. Brendan's Island and set up his roots in Freshwater, Placentia Bay. It was there, in Argentia, he met his beautiful wife-to-be Monica Theresa Hickey. Predeceased by his parents: Philip Beresford and Margaret Hynes, his devoted wife Monica, Brothers: James (Kathleen), Patrick (Alice), Greg (Mary), Herbert, Raymond and Bernard. Sisters: Mary (Thomas Turner), and Sarah. His brothers and sisters in law: Lucy McCarthy, Bride Power (Bill), James Hickey (Lucy), Gerald Hickey, Leo Hickey, Adrian Hickey and Garrett Hickey. Leaving to mourn are his children: Madonna, (his darling special angel), Peggy (Jim Reimer), Brenda (Frank Myrick), Michael (Sharon), Lucille (Stephen Pumphrey), Mary (Mahmood Khedmatgozar), Kenneth (Hilda), Sheila (Arnold Pomeroy), Jeanette, and Kimberly (Tommy Murphy). His dearest grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephen, Melanie, Michael, Genna-Lee, Sarah, Braeden, Daniel, Meisha, and great-granddaughter, Bella. Leaving to mourn, as well, are his sisters in law: Margaret Hickey, Imelda Hickey, Josephine Hickey and Betty Hickey. Survived by his many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of friends, especially Stephen Mullaley. Special thanks to his caregivers at Chancellor Park where he resided this past year. Resting at Maher's Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation Friday 7:00-9:00, Saturday 12:00-9:00, Sunday 12:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Church, Freshwater, on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00. Interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Freshwater. Michael married Monica Theresa Hickey, daughter of James Hickey and Mary Maher, on 16 Jul 1955 in Freshwater, Newfoundland. (Monica Theresa Hickey was born in 1930 in Freshwater, Newfoundland, died on 6 Jul 2002 in Health Sciences Center - St. John's, Newfoundland and was buried in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Freshwater, Newfoundland.)
