Michael Collins: (Facebook)
As far as I know, "our" Lakes were from Presque. Patrick lived in Mahaney's Cove, then moved to St.Kyran's, where he died. He had a brother John who moved to Branch. There are no Lakes in Branch as John had one son, who died as a teenager. He had two daughters. one married a Nash and the other married a Downey. John is buried in Branch. Their sister Mary married my grandfather, Peter Collins. Whether or not we are related to Mr.Paddy Lake, I don't know for sure. I've read that all Lakes in NL are from the same family, so based on that we are related somewhere along the line.
Michael Collins: No. She died when our father was a child. Now our father had a first cousin, May Lake. She would have been one of Uncle Patrick's daughter. The sequence of events in my father's life were; His father died first, when my father was a very young child. When he was 8 or 9, his mother died. Then he went with Fr. Doubtney, the parish priest. At age 12 he went with his Uncle Pad Lake to live. Also, his brother Michael lived with the Lakes . He remained with the Lakes until his marriage in 1920. By then the family had moved from Mahaney's Cove to St.Kyran's. Then in the 1920's the Lakes moved to the US.
