MURPHY, Mary (Minnie) - It is with sadness that the family of Minnie Murphy announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt and great friend on Friday, June 13, 2014. She is predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents William and Maggie Ellen Pittman, Brothers William, Philip, and James, Sisters Bernadette and Carmelita. She will be dearly missed by her children Kevin (Violet) of Calgary, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Dermot (Mary Claire) of New Brunswick, Brian (Mary), Adrian (Wanda), Sean (Shelley), Sheri Tucker (Wayne), 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn are her brother Vincent (Betty) of Montreal and sisters Marguerite Whiteland (Ritchie) of Ontario and Cecily Pittman of Chilliwack, BC as well as sister-in-law Nellie Pittman of Wabush. Minnie also leaves to mourn a large circle of relatives and friends. Minnie was born on Nov. 5, 1930 on Merasheen Island in Placentia Bay. She worked as a nursing assistant and devoted her life to raising her seven children and helping with grandchildren. Minnie also devoted a huge amount of her life to volunteering such as Girl Guides, Card Clubs, Royal Canadian Legion executive and Ladies Auxiliary, Cadets and sick visiting for the church. Minnie was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 in Pleasantville and devoted many hours to this organization. She was a recipient of the Legion's Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf. In 2012, Minnie received the Queens Jubilee Medal for her dedication and support for the Fort Townshend Sea Cadets and Fort Pepperrell Navy League Cadets. She will be resting at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, on Sunday, June 15 from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Monday, June 16 from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Parish, Paradise on Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Belvedere Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
