It is with great regret and sadness that the family of the late Mr. Alvin Major announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 29, 1999, at the age of 48 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife Joyce (nee Oxford), his son: Brad, Toronto, Ont.; his daughters: Janis, (special friend, John Cooper), Jasper, Alb., and Maria at home. Three brothers: George (Isabelle), Whispering Hills, Alb., Gerald (Margaret), Trenton, Ont., Charlie (Justine), Parsons Pond; four sisters: Cora Sparkes (Lloyd) Rocky Harbour, Bertha Reid (Irvin), Marie Decker (Milton) all residing at Norris Point, and Iris Barranger (Albert), Toronto, Ont.; three brothers-in-law: Raymond Oxford, Alberta, Mike Oxford, Mt. Moriah, and John Oxford, Yellowknife, N.W.T.; four sisters-in-law: Sadie Kotai (Joe), Kitimat, BC, Rose Temple (Bruce), Mt. Moriah, Dorothy Arenbury (Randall), Lower Sackville, NS, and Shirley Major, Brampton, Ont. He will be also missed by a large number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents: Eli (1960) and Emma (1985) Major, brother Jack (1988), parents-in-law Grace (1986) and Raymond (1995) Oxford. The funeral service will take place from the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church on Mt. Bernard Ave., Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Father Terry and Rev. Frye officiating. The interment will take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Tributes may be made by sending flowers or by making donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Visitation will take place at Wellington Funeral Home, 31 Wellington Street, Monday during the hours of 2-4 and 7-9, and Tuesday during the hours of 10-12 noon.

Cora married Lloyd Sparkes, son of Ambrose Sparkes and Martha Duval. (Lloyd Sparkes was born in 1931 in Pasadena, Newfoundland, died on 20 Feb 2016 in St. Clare's Mercy Hospital - St. John's, Newfoundland and was buried in Salvation Army Cemetery.)
