"This is what I know about Charles Frank Wilson. He was born by census records Feb. 1860. I believe Feb 1861 if he was Matilda's natural born child. Matilda was still single in June 1860 living at home with her parents. She could have been pregnant then and married Wilson shortly afterwards.
Or maybe Charles was the infant son of UNKNOWN Wilson , and maybe his wife might have died with Charles's birth. Matilda married UNKNOWN Wilson and he died leaving her with Charles to raise as her own. This is all guess work on my part.
I haven't found a married record for Matilda and Wilson so far. But when she married Perry D. Hopkins in 1868 she was Mrs. Matilda Wilson. I believe that her husband was most likely killed in the Civil War. There weren't that many Wilson men around that area of Wisconsin in 1860. There was one Charles Wilson that was a music teacher that could have been who she married. But I couldn't find him in 1870. He was older than she, but that was common back then. I guess we will never know until I find a marriage record.
On July 11, 1870 Matilda, Perry and Charles are in Nevada, Story County, Iowa and Charles is already 10 years old. If he was born in Feb. 1860 he would have only been 9.
Charles Frank Wilson was in the 1880 census twice. Once with Perry D. Hopkins in South Park, Park County, Colorado. . And then they both joined Matilda and boys in Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado. Charles is age 20 in both census.
Charles married Tillie (Matilda) Healey on June 16, 1882 in Boulder, Colorado.
Matilda Healey was born 1866 in Michigan, father in Michigan and mother in Michigan. She is in the 1880 Boulder, Colorado census.
By 1885 they are in Summit County, Colorado by the 1885 Colorado State Census. His occupation is a miner.. Matilda is listed as Tillie 19 born in Michigan, Michigan, Michigan.
By 1900 they have divorced and C. Frank Wilson is living in Mineral County, Colorado, he is age 40 and has a housekeeper name Bessie Morgan age 28, born in Norway and came to the USA in 1887. Sometime in that year Him and Bessie married,
By 1910 Charles F. and Bessie are in Cochise County, Arizona. They are in 2 different census records in Cochise County. In Bisbee and Hereford. In both census records Bessie reported she came to America in 1886. Charles owns a transport wagon in both records.
In 1920 they are still in Bisbee, Chohise County, Arizona. In this census record Bessie reported she naturalized in 1889. She being born in Norway.
By 1930 you found Bessie in California and is listed as a widow.
I don't know if Matilda and Charles ever had any children. I have not been able to find Matilda past the 1885 Colorado State Census.
Also it is unclear if Charles went to California with Bessie or not. I don't know if he just left one day and didn't return and she moved to California with her nephew and she just assumed he was died.
I did locate a death record in Chohise County, Arizona for one Frank Wilson. Who died in the County Hospital 11-8-1934 Douglas, Chohise County, Arizona. States that he was transient. The doctor reported that he was about 50 years old ( he could of been around 60), That he died of acute Alcoholism with a secondary cause of acute Myocardetis, that's the way it was spelled on the record.
Also list they don't know if he was married or where he was born or any other family history. That the doctor only treated him the day he died. And there was only the hospital records as informant.
It is clear by Matilda Straw-Hopkins's obit that the family called Charles Frank Wilson, Frank. I have searched all reports and records possible for Frank Wilson and Charles Frank Wilson and the record I list here are the only ones that match our Charles Frank Wilson. So, I am not clear that the Frank Wilson who died in Cochise County, Arizona is Charles, but just might be.
There was also a younger Charles Wilson of the age of 17, white male. Who was a miner that also died in Bisbee, Chohise County on July 23, 1905 of pneumonia with no family information. He would of been the right age for a son of our Charles. But the record only has his name and age and death date on it.
This is about all I know of Charles Frank Wilson. Hope this helps some"
[The above additional information as well as DOB POB via e-mail of Ehistory2@aol.com (Eva) Jan 2008 - Charles Frank Wilson first married Matilda (Tilley) Healey 6-6-1882 Boulder, Colorado. They divorced by 1900 and Charles later married his housekeeper Bessie Morgan. Charles died between 1920 and 1930.]
