The elderly George Fries couple settled about 2 miles south east of Oregon (the place __ on Hi Way 59. After the children grew ..& located north of Mound City, the parents came to Mound City locating on a 40 acre improved place 1 mile north of Mt. Hope (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery (20 acres).It is just 1 mile, thru field, east of the Porter Farm. the Buntz families (4) located 2 miles east of Oregon (north of Geroge Fries Sr. Family) Mrs Fies was Willamina Buntz, sister of the 4 men (all very tall). Evidently the Fries and Buntzs came from the same community of Callicoon, NY on the Deleware River. Population 1890 68__

Grace Kennish's husband was a son of Joseph Fries..Joseph Fries waS 9 years old when coming to Oregon, MO (Joseph Fries married to a Miss Hiller about 10 miles north east of Oregon near New Point (inland village)...lot of Germans in Holt county...Walter Fox,a nephew of Mrs Joseph Fries from NY was with the Fries Family several years and married here.Lived across the road from Bellevue School ; and (?) was killed bya car at the school cross road. A brother from NY was here for funeral from same county in NY where the Fries were located...the Fries' all purchased land to their original homes.
I was in bank 10 yrs (1921-31)...Mrs Smith was in poor health and not in bank much...passed away 19 "

NOTE: Wilhelmina Fries was the sister of John, Mike, and Jacob August Buntz. She and John George were married at Jeffersonville, N.Y. and walked four miles for the ceremony.

Mrs. John George Fries died Feb. 28, 1907, at her home near Mound City, Mo., aged 74. She was born Wilhelmina Buntz in Wurtenburg, Germany on Aug. 3, 1832. At the age of 14, she came to the United States with her parents and four years later in 1850, she married John George Fries in New York state.
In 1872, they came to Holt county, Mo. Eleven children were born and eight survive her. (See John George Fries obit for children).
Funeral at the M.E. Church in Mound City and burial in Mount Hope Cemtery at Mound City.
