Jonathan served the Colonies in the VA militia during the American Revolution and was granted a pension in 1834. The family moved to present day Nicholas County VA in 1806.
Jonathan married Hannah Nutter, daughter of David Nutter and Ruth Cottle. (Hannah Nutter was born on 2 Aug 1793 in Monroe County, Virginia and died after 1870 in Clay County, Virginia.)
