JOHN DARLING, son of John3 (John2-1) and Hannah (MORSE) DARLING, baptized 1744 Geb 05 Kingston, NH CR and died 1830 Gs; Groton Cem ae 100 (sic). John married first 1764 Dec 24 Hampstead, NH VR PHOEBE ROBARDS, daughter od Aniel3 (Daniel2, Ephraim1) and Meritah4 (Thomas3, Francis2-1 DAVIS) ROBARDS. Phoebe was born 1748 Jun 15 Hamptead NH VR and died after the birth of her fifth child in 1775 post vide.
John was an early property owner and settler of Vermont. In 1763, the Governor of New H ampshire granted land in Lunenburg to 74 men fro New Hampshire, one of whom was John VHG, 1:1015. It was not until 1787 that John and his sons Robards, Samuel and Moses came to Groton from Plaistow NH ibid, 4:1158 in 1787 ibid, 1:321. On 1797 mar 28, the first organized Groton town meeting was held at the home of John Darling ibid, 3:321.
