www.findagrave.com - Submitted by Van Laffoon: George William Steyer. 1853-1925 George William Steyer was born August 10, 1853, in Williams county, Ohio and departed this life April 21, 1925, at Abilene Kans., aged 71 years, 8 months, 11 days. On October 1, 1878 he was united in marriage with Rebecca McHenry. To this union 7 children were born, & of whom are living, Mrs. H. H. Straw having preceded him in death. In, 1880 he located in Missouri moving to Peculiar in 1883, where he resided 28 years. He then moved to Ellsworth, Kans., and from there moved to Abilene, the same state, in 1914, where he resided until his death. He leave to mourn his departure his wife, four daughters, and two sons. They are: Mrs. Kirby E. Johnson (Florence), of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. F. R. Jenkins (Blanch), of Denver, Colo; Mrs. Gilmer M. Laffoon (Betty), of Kansas City, Mo.; Miss Adella Steyer of Denver, Colo.; M. B. (Me.) Steyer of Oakland, Calif., and Clark Steyer of Abilene, Kans. Also a brother, S. A. Steyer, of Montpelier, Ohio. The body was brought to Peculiar Cemetery, April 25th, and after a short service was laid to rest beside his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Straw, in the Peculiar Cemetery. The funeral services conducted at the grave, Rev. Hermon D. Huffine, pastor of the M. E. Church, having charge, and a quartette composed of Mrs. Grover C. Wills, Miss Lucy Wills, Messrs. Thomas Hill and Leslie M. Britton, sang. The pallbearers were Messrs. A. W. McEowen, Frank H. Hockaday, J. E. Urton, William T. Lamb, Cyril V. Liggett and Walter A. Welborn. The family have the sympathy of friends in this hour of sorrow.
