Joseph Anderson
General Notes: Your tagline lists Joseph Anderson as being from Canada or Ireland...he was from Dublin, Ireland. Whether that was his actual residence or simply his point of embarkation is not known. He arrived in New York @ 1835 with James Anderson, a male some 22 years his senior, and a very young wife. She died at, or shortly after, giving birth to a son, "Joseph". Sarah was a widow, eighteen years his junior, with a daughter, "Mary", when she married Jos Anderson. So...the two oldest children listed in the 1850 census aren't even related to each other ! Now, there's a DNA genealogist's nightmare ! The Iowa census of 1850 indicates their origins as Ireland: CENSUS YR: 1850 STATE or TERRITORY: IA COUNTY: Jackson DIVISION: The Town of Bellevue REEL NO: M432-184 PAGE NO: 305A Joseph married Sarah Jukes in 1840. (Sarah Jukes was born on 5 Nov 1819 in Warrick county, Indiana and died on 6 Nov 1896 in Jackson County, Iowa.) Joseph next married Unknown. (Unknown died circa 1836.) |
