Lumina M (Provencher) Straw, 90, died at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester on December 30, 2010, following a brief illness. Born in Ashland on October 5, 1920, she was a daughter of Henry and Leona (Ruell) Provencher. Lumina was a lifelong resident of Ashland. She attended Ashland schools and graduated from Ashland High School. She went on to Notre Dame College in Manchester and graduated with a degree in nursing and later earned her teaching certification from UNH.
She was married to Richard Straw on February 16, 1946, at Saint Agnes Church in Ashland and they shared 61 years together. They raised their family in Ashland. Lumina worked as a registered nurse in Manchester before her marriage. She was employed for many years as the Ashland School Nurse as an Ashland District Nurse. She was a dedicated member of Saint Agnes Catholic Church for her entire life, a member of the Ashland Woman's Club, Dupuis-Cross American Legion Post 15 Auxiliary, a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association, and the New Hampshire Nursing Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Straw; her daughter, Pamela Bergeron; and a granddaughter, Mary Beth Bergeron. She is survived by her son, James Straw of New Boston; and her daughter, Judy Gilmore of Loudon. She is also survived by her grandsons, Richard and Paul Gilmore, John, Keith, Dan, Matt, Luke, and Mark Bergeron; and one granddaughter, Jill Bergeron; as well as 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p m at The Dupuis Funeral Home, Hill Avenue, Ashland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a m in Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Hill Avenue, Ashland. A spring burial will be in Green Grove Cemetery in Ashland.

Lumina married Richard James Straw, son of Edson Alvin Straw and Mary Hamblet Little, on 16 Feb 1946 in Ashland, Grafton County, New Hampshire. (Richard James Straw was born on 15 Apr 1915 in New Hampshire, died on 12 Mar 2007 in Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth and was buried in Green Grove Cemetery Ashland, Grafton County, New Hampshire, USA.)
