A simple country girl, old fashioned, born and raised on a farm was the heart and soul of Laurie Straw.
Laurie passed into heaven and the arms of God and her one true love at Wellington House Memory Care, Gastonia. She will always be remembered by her children as a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved cooking and gardening. She was a true stay-at-home housewife and mother whose family meant the world to her.
She was born in Clayton County, Iowa, to the late Jens Christophersen and Mary Christine (Simpson) Christophersen. She married Edward James Straw on June 1, 1945 in Strawberry Point, IA. They moved to Davenport, IA in 1948. Mr. Straw died in 1980 and Mrs. Straw moved to Gastonia in 2007 to be closer to her daughters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Edna Thorington and husband, George of Kings Mountain, NC, Brenda Frederick of Davenport, IA, Marion Farmer and husband, Ralph, Sr. of Gastonia, NC and son, Edward E. Straw and wife, Carol of Chenoa, IL; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Straw was preceded in death by her husband, sister, brother and son-in-law.
Mrs. Straw will be laid to rest next to her husband at Oakdale Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa

Laurie married Edward James Straw, son of James Edward Anson Straw and Katherine Olive Gartrell Straw, on 1 Jun 1945 in Strawberry Point, Iowa. (Edward James Straw was born on 23 Feb 1918 in Minnesota City, Winona County, Minnesota, died on 27 Feb 1980 in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa and was buried in Oakdale Memorial Gardens Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, USA.)
