Leonard Lee Bertwell, age 73, Eagle,
passed away in his home on June 30, 2011. Born March 14, 1938 in Auburn, Neb. to Floyd Ira and Reva (Straw) Bertwell. He grew up in Johnson County, Neb. and moved to Lincoln in 1956 with his parents and family. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Taussig. After serving in the Navy he returned to Lincoln and lived there until 1984 when he moved to Eagle, Neb., where he lived until his death. Leonard retired from the Fleming Company as a semitruck driver after 26 years.
Leonard had a zest for life and could make anyone smile. He always had a smile on his face and a joke in his heart. He loved John Deere tractors, eagles and a well worn pair of cowboy boots. He will be loved and missed by many loved ones, friends and neighbors.
Survived by: Daughter: Kathryn Bertwell Perry of Lincoln; Son & daughter-in-law: Patrick Aaron and Jackie Bertwell of Lincoln; Son & daughter-in-law: Mathew Lee and Christy Bertwell of Oklahoma; Step-daughter: Kerri Tricolli of Colorado; Step-daughter: Annette Spellman of Lincoln; Stepson: Cheyenne Spellman of Lincoln; Grandchildren: Elizabeth, Mikaela, and Maxwell Perry, Damien, Hailey, and Mizaac Bertwell, Dustin, Dillon, Mallory, and Bellambe Bertwell; Step-grandson: Nick Spellman; Sister: Marge Butler of Council Bluffs; Brother & sister-in-law: Larry and Donnetta Bertwell of Lincoln; Sister: Connie Duis of Colorado; Sister-in-law: Helen Bertwell of Lincoln; Long time friend & companion: Sharon Bertwell of Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents, sister, four brothers, grandchild.
Funeral services 10 a.m., Wednesday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln. Visitation 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.; one hour before services Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Leonard married Sharon L. Winters, daughter of Walter Winters and Pearl Viola Brunell. (Sharon L. Winters was born on 30 Jan 1937 in Lincoln, Nebraska and died on 27 Dec 2013.)

Leonard next married Verna Jean Brown on 24 Aug 1962 in Orange County, California, USA. (Verna Jean Brown was born on 11 Dec 1946 in Orange County, California and died on 6 May 2008 in Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona.)
