Union & Confederate Civil War Prisoner of War Records, 1861-1865
The Florence Prison was in operation for approximately 5 months during the time period of Sept 1864 through Feb 1865. During this time, as many as 15,000 - 18,000 Union soldiers were held captive. Of these, approximately 2,802 Union soldiers died.
The Florence Stockade has not received the same notoriety as Andersonville, but the conditions were very much the same. In fact, by many accounts, Florence was worse. It must also be realized that most of the prisoners at Florence had already survived a hard summer at Andersonville and now faced going through the winter with little to no clothing or shelter.

Cassander Flagg Captain of 16th MA Vols Company H
Excerpts taken from his letter - .... while in the line of duty and on the march to Brandy Station, VA [c 1 May 1864] he [Daniel B. Janes] was taken sick and permitted to "fall out of the ranks"..."taken by Provost Guard and kept wtih them until the Battle of Brandy Station VA [8 May 1864].. when he was put on Provost duty at the front..taken prisoner by the enemy and carried to Andersonville GA and afterwards to Florence, SC where he died on 26 November 1864 of chronic diarrhea contracted by him while in the said prison and caused by the bad water, food and exposure of the rebel prison..." that at "this time of said Janes captive the orders were to report every man a deserter unless killed or known to be a prisoner of war and upon that order said Janes was erroneously marked "deserter" when he was not as I have since learned was a "prisoner of war"..that said Janes was not a deserter and would not have been charged with it on the rolls had he been known to have been a prisoner.

Daniel may be buried in Florence National Cemetery as it was opened in Sept of 1864 and he died Nov 1865 based on the following:
Florence Stockade Trail and Memorial Park/Florence National Cemetery
Site of a major Civil War prison camp, the Florence Stockade Trail and Memorial Park is adjacent to Florence National Cemetery, which began as a cemetery for Northern prisoners-of-war who died at Florence Stockade. The National Cemetery's original facility contains the graves of more than 2,800 Northern soldiers, and the nearby Florence Stockade Trail and Memorial Park provides historic displays and a walking path through the site of the Civil War prison.

Concern about prison conditions by local civilians prompted the exchange of the most seriously ill and injured prisoners, and large-scale transfers and exchanges emptied the prison in January of 1865, just five months after its construction. By then, however, more than 2,800 Federal troops had perished. They were buried nearby in mass graves in what became the Florence National Cemetery.
