Shirley Margaret Kimball passed away on March 8, 2007, in the Cokesbury Health Care Center.
Born November 2, 1924 in Manchester, NH, daughter of Charles Wendell Kimball and Mildred Buckley Kimball. In 1937, her father's business moved the family to Manchester, Connecticut, where she met her husband-to-be, Harry Arthur Straw. They attended high school together, and graduated in 1942, as a "Class Couple".Shirley was employed in the early '40s by the Hartford Courant newspaper in the advertising department, using her creativity to prepare advertisements and campaigns for customers. Her family moved to Bloomingdale, Illinois, where she and Harry were married July 31, 1945. It was a furlough wedding, Harry then being in the Army, stationed in Ft. Worth, TX. She joined Harry in Texas, then, at the end of WWII, moved to Manchester, Connecticut, when Harry entered graduate school at Yale University. After birth of their son, Kimball, in 1947, she joined Harry in New Haven. In 1950, after Harry's receiving his Ph.D., they moved to Wilmington, Delaware, for Harry's work with the DuPont Company, and have lived in the Wilmington area ever since. Her second son, Charles Andrew, was born in 1951.

Shirley married Harry Arthur Straw, son of Harry Cone Straw and Marjorie Rose Dunn, on 31 Jul 1945 in Bloomingdale, Illinois. (Harry Arthur Straw was born in 1925 in Connecticut, died on 26 Oct 2013 in Hockessin, Delaware and was buried in Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.)
