Michael was my Godfather He was married to Bertha Bennett Also one of my teachers She died when son Frank was maybe two.Baby girl was born but died also . I think she had cancer...........She died in hospital in St.Johns He never married again.

Michael Collins married Bertha Bennett on Sept.29th. 1946. She died at St.Johns Gen. Hospital on Oct.17th. 1948, age 34 yrs Liver cancer. Vince told me that they all went aboard the boat to see her & she was down in the fore castle waving to them. When she died, Michael sent home for her wedding dress for her to be buried in.
Bertha married Michael Joseph Collins, son of Peter Collins and Mary Margaret Bennett, on 29 Sep 1946. (Michael Joseph Collins was born in Jan 1920 in St. Anne's, Newfoundland and died on 28 Oct 1989 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.)
