Bunker Hill Gazette, 3 Aug 1898 Rev. Horatio Nelson died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. I Camp , Friday, July 29th, at the age of 78 years 10 months. Deceased was bor n in New Hampshire Sept 11, 1818. He was ordained as a deacon in the Meth odist Church in this city by Bishop Simpson on the 21st of October, 1860 . Two years later he was ordained elder by Bishop Ames of Alton. He serve d a number of charges in this part of the state, but believing he could d o more good by furnishing money to extend the cause of Christ's kingdom h e gave up preaching and went into farming. He was always a very liberal g iver of his substance to the cause of missions. His life was one of conse cration to his master and was ever willing to speak a word of comfort o r lend a helping hand to those in trouble. For a number of years he has b een troubled with heart disease which resulted in his death. He was eve r ready to go at the call of the angel of death. Mr. Nelson was on the st reet the day before he died and was conversing with his friends. He leave s only one child, Mrs. IW Camp, with whom he has been making his home fo r some time past. The funeral services were conducted by Rev JP Yunglin g at the Methodist Church last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and his rema ins were laid to rest under the shade of one of the beautiful trees in th e cemetery by the side of his wife who died last April.
