Descendants of Elias Parcher (Internet)
Robert 4 Parcher (Timothy Kearl 3 , George 2 , Elias 1 ) was born Abt. 1770 in Scarborough, Maine, and died 1814 in Waterbuy, Vermont. He married Sarah Straw March 18, 1790 in Waterborough, York Co., Massachusettes. [Now Maine] She died Aft. 1814 in Waterbuy, Vermont.
Notes for Robert Parcher:
A land deed in Waterbury, VT, dated November 6, 1789 shows that Robert Parcher of Waterborough, County of York, State of Massachusettes, (Maine did not become a state until 1820) bought the original right of Elias Bedford on that date. The History of Waterbury, VT says that he had the first farm in the region. This was the farm that was later owned by C. C. Robinson. In the 1790 Vermont Census in the Robert Parcher family, there were two males 16 and over and 2 females. No Parchers other than Robert were listed in that census. In 1800 there were2 males under age 10, 1 male over age 26, 1 female under age 10, and 1 female over age 26. By the 1810 census his family had grown considerably -- 4 males under 10, 1 under 16, 1 16-26 and Robert 26 and over. There was also 1 female under 10, 1 female under 16, 1 16-26 and Sarah over 26.
Robert was appointed a suveyer of property in Waterbury, April 20, 1793. He was named constable on March 1st, 1796 after he bid 3# 6 # for the office. He was on a list of voters and was sworn in as a juror at a town meeting on March 5th, 1810. In the property deeds in Waterbury, there are many listings of property which bought and sold.
A petition he signed dated January 12th, 1803 stated, " I do not agree in religious opinion with a majority of the inhabitants of the Congregational Society in this Town." It was received and recorded January 13th, 1803 by Roswell Wells, Clerk. Robert apparently did not wish to be a member of the Congregational Church. Whether he joined the Baptist or Methodist church as his brothers had done was not recorded.
On May 24th, 1814 Samuel and David Parcher were appointed executors of the Robert Parcher estate. This appears in Will Book A., page 343. The estate inventory was worth $1,703.00 which consisted of his home farm of 1224 acres, and 1/8 part of 50 acres of wild land. Sarah Parcher was the widow and Suzy Tomson and David Parcher were a son and a daughter. Sarah's dower was $350.00 which was 1/3 ofr the $1050.00 the farm's worth. There was reference to other sons and daughters, but no names. This has made it difficult to identify his children.
It appears Sarah Straw Parcher remarried after her first husband's death.
