Robert married Priscilla Elizabeth Straw, daughter of Sargent Straw and Priscilla Bennet Sanborn, 17 Feb 1848 in Bristol, New Hampshire. (Priscilla Elizabeth Straw was born on 30 Jun 1825 in Hill, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, died on 2 Jan 1854 in Hill, Merrimack County, New Hampshire and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hill, New Hampshire.). The cause of her death was consumption.

Robert next married Julia Ann Carlton, daughter of Jeremiah Carlton and Betsey Tenney, on 13 Jun 1855 in Sanbornton, Belknap County, New Hampshire. (Julia Ann Carlton was born on 13 Apr 1825 in Hill, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, died on 8 Feb 1913 in Bristol, Grafton County, New Hampshire and was buried in Homeland Cemetery, Bristol, Grafton County, New Hampshire.). The cause of her death was "old age."
