Bella Vista Geraldine Straw Clabaugh
Geraldine Straw Clabaugh, 96, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Ark. She was born Feb. 19, 1909, in Deepwater, Mo.
She graduated from Warrensburg (Mo.) Teachers College. She taught early primary grades for many years in Missouri schools, then was an assistant principal for an elementary school in the St. Louis area. In September 1945, on the last convoy of the war - 10 days from San Francisco to Honolulu - she taught at Iolani, a private Episcopal school for boys.
She married Ben Clabaugh in 1947. In 1948, she taught in public schools in Hawaii for seven years before moving to the West Coast in 1963. She lived in Portland, Ore., and the San Francisco area. She moved to Bella Vista in 1977.
She enjoyed knitting, candle making, painting and other crafts. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed trying new recipes.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Clabaugh.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville with the Rev. Art Fogartie.
Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Geraldine died in 2005 but her ashes were placed with the ashes of her husband, Ben, on May 18, 2015.
