He graduated from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1847, went to California in 1849, returning, studied Homeopathy in Philadelphia, graduating from that school in 1852. He came to Waterville the same year where he at once built up a large practice. His judgement of financial affairs was of a high order and he was for many years president of the People's National Bank, which office he held at the time of his death.
