Phillip Pius Power
Phillip Pius, also known as Pius or Old Pius was known greatly for his singing. Pius Power would go to someone's house and then a crowd would gather and a party would be expected. He sang for hours and hours on end. People would hate to see him go. Pius Power attended provincial and regional folk festivals annually. Pius Power was well known for singing Heave Away. In fact the group known as the Punter heard Mr. Power sing this song at a folk festival which inspired them to produce it on their CD.
Pius married Maggie Hepditch and they had 6 children; Annie Francis, Mary, Clara, Kathleen, Margaret and Young Pius. Mary Margaret Hickey, now residing in Southern Harbour, also grew up in their home.
Pius died in March 1993 of cancer. He is greatly missed throughout the community and the province.
