Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Tuesday, December 29, 1914 GIDEON BOWEN Death of Pioneer Resident of This City Monday Afternoon Gideon Bowen died at his home, on North Seventh street, Monday afternoon, at 12:30 o'clock, after a long illness with the infirmities due to old age. He suffered an attack of pneumonia two years ago and had been ill since that time. He was confined to his home since June, 1913, and was bedfast since August 6, last. Gideon Bowen, son of Joseph and Margaret Harmon Bowen, both long since deceased, was born on a farm in the southern part of Wyandot county, near Morral, February 15, 1829, and was in his eightysixth year at the time of death. He was married to Deborah Woolley November 18, 1852, and she passed away July 2, 1907. Five children were born to them, of whom the following survive: Mrs. Eugene Straw, near Harpster; Mrs. Ota B. Nigh, at home, and Pliny W. Bowen, north of town. Mr. Bowen was the last of a large family. He came to this city from Bowsherville in 1845, and resided here ever since. He was one of the oldest pioneers in Wyandot county and sowed oats where the Wyandot court house and jail now stand here in Upper Sandusky. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the home, conducted by Rev. J. W. Holland, of Springfield. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
