Saint Charles (Kane County, Illinois) Review, May 25, 1878,Fifty-Seventh Anniversary.
Our much respected citizens, Mr. and Mrs. Prescott, were the recipients, on Wednesday evening, of a surprise party. The provocation consisted in its being the fifty-seventh anniversary of their wedding. A very large number of friends were in attendance, their presence speaking in accents clear, of the universal love and veneration cherished for the long-wedded pair. Mr. Prescott was born in Vermont in 1802; his wife was born in Pennsylvania the following year -- 1803. They were married in New York in 1821, and in 1845 came to our great western state. Three years later they settled in St. Charles, and in our old city have grown to a ripe age. It is a pleasure to make record of this gathering, and to add our benediction. May they live to celebrate many more anniversaries. Their long lives have been nobly lived; and now in the down-hill path to the ominous river, are strewn with the flowers of friendship, and all the air rings with the rhythm of love and peace.
