bullet  General Notes:

personal recollections of Jean Selig O'Connor and sent to me via postal mail -
Per Sacred heart Parish records he was born Clattice harbor on Oct 15, 1903 and baptized by Rev. Wm P. Doutney; his Godparents were Mary Connors and Patrick Connors.
Michael lost his mother at the age of seven and went to live with his maternal grandparents. When he was older , like his father, he became a commercial fisherman. In the meantime his father remarried and Michael returned home.
In 1929 at the age of 26 he went to Nova Scotia to go salt fishing with a Captain Jack Westhoven. Jack's boat was named MARION WESTHOVEN after the Capt's daughter. While in Lunenburg he met and married Jean Selig and raised 4 children there. He continued his life as a commercial fisherman. When WWII broke out he joined the Navy. It was then that a descrepancy in the spelling of his last name occured..(he had always used Mike Connors..... he was required to give a birth certificate but when he wrote to his father he was told the church with the records burned down. A Confirmation certificate gave O'Connor as his legal name and Joseph as his confirmation name. Also a wife of his cousin Bill said that O'Connor was the right name and when this word came through he was given strict orders to always sign his name Michael O'Connor. So he had to have it changed on all his legal documents including his marriage certificate from CONNORS to O'CONNOR..)
In 1951 the two brothers, Michael and Anthony, were re-united after a separation of 25 years. Anthony's entire family went and spent several days with Michael's family in Lunenburg. I have many memories and lots of photos of that reunion and two others in the following years..
In 1967 Jean (now widowed) and daughter Josephine and Jo's husband and children came to the States to visit.
Over the years the two families have kept up a correspondence and still do now even though Jean passed away in 1995 from complications due to diabetes.
Mike died 1966 from a bronchial condition and heart problems and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lunenburg. His four children all married and have children and some have grandchildren.
