TYPHOID FEVER AT MARSEILLES
"The typhoid fever is raging at Marseilles with great fatality. Three persons in one family have fallen victims to the dreadful malady in the past two weeks and a fourth is lying at the point of death. A great affliction has fallen upon Daniel Straw of the above place, and he is deserving the sympathy of the entire community. About two weeks ago, a daughter of nine years of age, became afflicted with the terrible malady and died after an illness of a few days. Shortly after, the wife and mother fell victim to the same disease and died. Last friday night, another daughter, 17 years of age, died with the same complaint, and the babe, aged nearly one year is lying very low. Several sympathizing friends of Mr. Straw came to his relief in a substantial way. Last Saturday a subscription paper was started and in a short time $44.00 in money was subscribed, besides about ten dollars worth of provisions. The other persons about the town afflicted with the disease are in a fair way of recovery."

Per June Huston Chase (great grand daughter): "... Annis D. Murrow Straw died when my grandmother was young - 10 or 11 - and her father Daniel Straw remarried. He and his new wife Rosina had a baby girl and named her Effie Mae! "
