Orrel Straw, 54, of Billings, was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Oct. 4, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with illness. Those fortunate to have known Jeff, and there are many, recognize the void that will be left with his departure. He touched many a life, known for his smile, generous and caring heart, positive attitude, and passion for everyone around. It was rare to find Jeff at a loss for a friend in the room, everywhere he went, people knew him and he treated each one with a kindness that defined his character.
Jeff grew up in Billings, graduated from Senior High School, and spent his career in truck sales, most recently with Beall Corporation. His passion for sports was apparent through his time playing youth baseball and basketball to his love of the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Orioles. Many hours spent with his sons and friends watching football and baseball, while sharing time and stories. Jeff shared his love for his community through active involvement at Saint Bernard Catholic Church, on the School Board for the Shepherd school district, and valiant support of Eagle Mount. He lived his life through others, sharing his generosity and leading by example.
Jeff leaves a large number of loved ones. He is preceded in death by his father, James, and sister Kathy.
He is survived by his sons Derek and Jordan of Billings; mother, Helen of Billings; sisters Diana (Tom) of Livingston, Peggy (Bob) of Thornton, Colo., and Susan (Jim) of Las Vegas; brothers Randy of Billings and Ken (Sharla) of Littlefield, Texas; brother-in-law Tom of Billings; special friend Judi Kimmell and her children, Kym, Stephanie and Brian; numerous extended family members; and far too many friends to list. Jeff had a special gift for making each one of us feel like we were the most important person in his world.
He will be missed, he is loved, and he will always be remembered.
Celebration for Jeff will be held at Saint Bernard Catholic Church, 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.
There will be lunch following the service, and interment will follow lunch at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorials may be made in Jeff's name to Eagle Mount-Billings or RiverStone Hospice.
