Amy Katherine Rapp was born December 15, 1908 in Halsey, Oregon. Her father, the late Frank Hailey Porter's family came to Halsey in 1849. Frank Porter was born in Shedd, Oregon in 1867 and lived there until moving to Portland in 1920. He raised prized Red Polled Hereford cattle on his 600 acre farm in the Shedd-Halsey area. Frank H. Porter represented Linn County in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1913 to 1917.
Amy Rapp attended Washington High School in Portland for a year and a half and then attended the new Grant High School in Portland for two and a half years, graduating in 1927. She attended University of Oregon and belonged to Alpha Omicrom Pi sorority. In 1931 she graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in architecture. That year she married Andrew Lee Rapp (Lee)in Eugene, Oregon on 11 October and they established their home in Portland, Oregon. In 1992 she was recognized as one of the MatriArchs which consisted of thirteen women who were pioneers in the field of architecture in Oregon. In 1994 the Columbia River Girl Scout Council awarded her as a Woman of Distinction whose vision and energy transformed her community.
She was also a member of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts Development Jury in 1982 and 1983. Mrs. Rapp and her husband owned and operated Green Furniture Hospital in Portland for more than 40 years. She was a very active member of downtown Portland's First Congregational Church for 69 years and was co-founder of the Recamier Study Group in 1932.
Her interests included gardening, Congregational Church activities, and spending time with her family including daughter Katherine Lee Rapp and sons Andrew Porter Rapp and Joseph Hopkins Rapp, their spouses and eight grandchildren.
