Lonnie passed away in his home Saturday, November 20, 2021 surrounded by his wife, daughters and his dog: Melvin. He had a long hard battle with cancer.
He was born in Piketown the son of his parents: Simon and Dorothy Straw.
Lonnie graduated from Central Dauphin East High School.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was presented with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving his Country with the Marines.
Lonnie married his high school sweetheart and they celebrated fifty-two years together.
He was a Tile Setter for InterState Tile and Mantel Company for thirty-two years. He received the Harrisburg Builders Exchange Exceptional Craftsmanship Award in 2000, 2001, 2008, and 2009.
Lonnie was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Dauphin Home Association.
He enjoyed Golfing, until he didn't. He loved his Phillies (most of the time) and enjoyed watching his Steelers and Penn State Football. He was an avid puzzler.
Lonnie was very down to earth and enjoyed a simple life. He loved his family - especially his grands and was known as the keeper of the gumballs!
In addition to his parenst, he was preceded in death by his son: Lonnie R. Straw, Jr.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of fifty-two years: Alexis Kay Straw; his daughters: Andrea and husband Tony DiMattia and Shannon and husband Ryan Pechart; his grandsons: Mason, T. J., Torre, Jake, and Chase; his sisters: Carol Jenakovich, Rhonda (Lyn) Baker and Bonita (Greg) Heckert; his brother: Barry (Barbara) Straw; and, his nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 06:00 - 07:00 PM in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Incorporated, 6011 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. Funeral Services will begin at 07:00 PM.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
