"Robert was a veteran of WWII and served as sergeant under General George S. Patton's 3rd Army, Sixth Armored Division in the fight to cross the Rhine River near Metz, France. There he was seriously wounded in battle by shrapnel fired from a Howitzer, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart."
Robert married Sally Straw, daughter of Ezekiel Albert Straw Sr. and Virginia Slayton. (Sally Straw was born on 24 May 1929 in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, died on 30 Dec 2010 in Ottawa Hills, Ohio and was buried in St Michaels in the Hills Memorial Garden in Toldedo, Ohio.)
