Betty A. Straw, 80, longtime resident of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away Aug. 28, 2014, at Coeur d'Alene Homes.
Betty was born Nov. 18, 1933, in Coeur d'Alene, to Harry Youngman and Ruth Thorne Youngman. She attended the old Bryan Elementary School on Harrison Avenue, and the old junior high and high school on Seventh Street in Coeur d'Alene (now Phippeny Park).
Betty married Alan Straw on Nov. 24, 1951, in Coeur d'Alene. They lived in Sacramento, Calif., from 1957 to 1960, in Coeur d'Alene from 1960 to 1964, then settled in Post Falls.
Betty was a homemaker, collected porcelain dolls and Pillsbury Doughboy knickknacks, enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, flower and vegetable gardening, antique stores and shopping with her daughter.
Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Erma of Post Falls, Ron and Shellie of Rathdrum; daughter Judy House of Post Falls; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother Glen (Joy) in Longmont, Colo.; and nephews Philip and Shawn Youngman.
The memorial service for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls. The family suggests memorials to: Hospice of North Idaho. Please sign Betty's guest registry and view her online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
