bullet  General Notes:

According to the History of Pembroke by Rev Carter, James was the eldest child of Deacon James and Agnes Colbreth. His date and place of birth are unknown but probably born in Northern Ireland, (or Concord, MA or Londonderry, NH where his parents lived prior to buying land in Pembroke, NH in 1729). Named for his father. We know he lived to adulthood as Bundy in his history of Bow, NH states that James and his brother Ephraim, sons of Deacon James, had crossed the Merrimack River to the west side to settle in Bow by the late 1750s or 1760s. According to Bundy they probably lived " near the bank of the Merrimack River...between Baker's Ferry. which was opposite the mouth of the Sowcook (Soucook) River and Garvin's Falls"..today this would be the area located on the west bank of the Merrimack River just east of the Lincoln Park development on the east side of Rt 3A. Per Bundy, James remained active in the affairs of Bow and was "one of the petitioners for relief of being taxed with Concord in the year 1766. (He would have been about 38 yrs old at this time). Bundy also speculates that James and Ephraim may have crossed the river (Merrimack) to Pembroke to attend the Presbyterian services held by Rev. Daniel Mitchell starting in 1760. A list for those assessed for Rev. Mitchell's salary includes the names of James and Ephraim Moor. He is mentioned in father's Will of 1773. No record exists for this son in NH VR and he does not appear to be buried in Pembroke with his father and two brothers..at least there is no marker for him.

July 2000: e-mail from Gene Carter per History of Bow by Bundy: James was a teacher.

Research for consideration: [possible children of James] 1. Mary Ann Moore [a d/o a "James Moore"] was born c1741 in either Pembroke or Bow NH and married in 1762 to Joseph Baker
2. Eunice Moore (born c1750) listed as his sister in Carter's History of Pembroke may actually be his daughter - see notes for her.
3. Also for consideration as a son would be James Moore born 16 Apr 1764 in Pembroke (Suncook) Township, New Hampshire who m. Molly Brown. They resided in Thetford, Orange County, VT
4. Isaac Moore lives in Bow, NH in 1800; born between 1756 and 1774 with wife born same time period and one son born 1790 - 1800.

for consideration: [my considerations and not documented]
Moores in Bow in 1776 - JAMES, EPHRAIM and JOHN
JAMES Moore born 1721 would be age 55; James and his brother Ephraim both had sons named James but both too young to consider. EPHRAIM born 1734 would be age 42 in 1776 and still alive as he had children born after this date. James's probable son Ephraim not yet married. JOHN Moore born 1744 would be age 32 [s/o above James] Ephraim's son John too young.

Moores in Bow in 1790 - JAMES, EPHRAIM and JOHN
EPHRAIM Moore s/o Deacon James would be age 56 and still lving in 1784 [last child 1784] Ephraim Moore possible s/o James not married yet; not in own household and ruled out. JAMES Moore the s/o Ephraim would be the more likely choice as he is married and living in Bow and his children born there during this time period; James Moore s/o Deacon James would be age 69 and may have died prior to 1790?
JOHN Moore is the possible s/o James born 1744 who would be 46 in 1790. I have ruled out John the s/o Ephraim even though he would be about 30 as he seemed to have remained behind in Pembroke, NH.
