Oceanus has a relationship with Lydia Straw [d/o Wm Straw and Martha Sargent] as Lydia left his two children money and all monies she delegated to persons in her Will were related to her in some way. Oceanus was born 1823 in Sandwich, NH and is her probable son.

Oceanus Straw was born in Sandwich, N.H., December 28, 1823. He was a farmer, and resided in Sandwich at the time of his enlistment, August 14, 1862, in Company K, when he was thirty-nine years of age. In Salem, Mass., he married Miss Elizabeth Goodwin. They had two children, both of whom are living. Corpl. Straw died in hospital, September 21, and is buried in the National Cemetery in Winchester. He left a widow who resides at Sandwich.

About 1868 the Ambrose corn barn was fashioned in to a rude dwelling by a man named Alonzo Fowler who came from Freedom. A little later it was bought by George Lawrence who had married the "Widow Straw." Her husband Oceanus Straw had gone to war with the 14th NH Inf..was mortally wounded at Opequan Creek and died in hospital in Winchester, VA where he is buried. Lawrence who had a saw mill near the Creamery, was also a wheelwright and used the old balcksmith shop of the Ambroses [Samuel Ambrose 1772-1852] as his shop. He it was who remodeled the old corn barn into its present form. After his death his widow took a third husband Henry Chick and lived here with him for some time. Then she sold it to Charles H. Marston...."

NEHGS Their marriage records do not list parents of bride or groom and the copy is very hard to read.

In census 1850 for Lexington, MA he is living in HH of Galen Allen as a farm laborer and he is age 27

Oceanus married Elizabeth Goodwin, daughter of John Goodwin and Lydia Bickford, on 5 Feb 1846 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. (Elizabeth Goodwin was born on 28 Feb 1821 in Rochester, Strafford County, New Hampshire, died on 5 Aug 1907 in Winthrop, Massachusetts and was buried in Baptist Burial Ground in Center Sandwich, Carroll County, New Hampshire.). The cause of her death was apoplexy.
