Excerpts from "Progressive Men of the State of Montana" (c1900); Mansfield Library; Missoula, MT "Born near Winfield OH 24 July 1861...at age 7 his parents ( O.H. and Sarah laukens Straw, natives of OH and PA who had settled in Iowa in early life, removed to Sullivan Co MO and engaged in farming until 1874....moved to KS and later MT...settled in Rosebud Valley 1882. O.H. Straw engaged in the stock business until his death in 1898...his widow lived on the Pleasant Hill home. Charles located a ranch in Rosebud Valley ten miles from the Northern Pacific RR. His original acreage was 160 acres in 1883 grew to 760 where he raised cattle and hay. He was a Republican; married at Minden Ne in 1886 to Miss Mabel Konkright a native of Sigourney, IA. Four children: Norvin 14; George 11; Ada eight and Bertha 2 yrs of age.
1893 - Charles purchased 160 acres in Rosebud County, Montana under the Homestead Act.

They were married in Nebraska in 1886. Mabel was born in Iowa, and died 2-38-1963 in Portland Oregon, and is buried in Woodburn in Belle Passi. Her parents were George Kronkright and Eliza Rodgers. Children: Charles Norvin born 11-2-1887, and died 2-17-1913 in Forsythe Montana. He married Leala Owens 7-29-1911. When Charles died, he left his young wife with a baby daughter. She moved away and remarried. George born 12-26-1890 and died 11-11-1908 in Montana. I am not sure how he died. Ada born 4-7-1894 and died Jan 1973 in Oregon. She married Allen Jackson **Bertha born 9-22-1899 in Montana, and died June 11 1985 in Tigard Oregon, and is buried in Woodburn in Belle Passi. She married Virgil Haller 5-1-1921 Frederick born 11-25-1902 and died 7-11-1979 in Oregon Mabel b 10-26-1911 and died 12-27-1991. She married Clarence Lund, who preceded her in death.
