WAS CIVIL WAR VETERAN
MIKE FELTHAUSER, AN OLD SOLDIER, PASSES TO HIS REWARD
Michael Felthauser, one of the best known old soldiers of this city, died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lena Wegner, 1612 Second Corso, where he made his home. He had been ill for several months, suffering from a complication of diseases incident to old age and trouble contracted while an inmate of Andersonville prison.
Michael Felthauser, oldest son of Valentine and Catherine Felthauser, was born in Germany, March 13, 1843. He came to America with his parents while yet a child. While the family was living in the vicinity of Pittsburgh he worked as a boy in an upholstering shop. He came with his family to Nebraska City in 1857 and in 1862 enlisted in the Second Nebraska Cavalry. When the members of that regiment were mustered out, he enlisted in the First Nebraska Regiment. Altogether he served five and a half years. He was captured and for a while was confined in Andersonville Prison. He died at the home of his daughter, May 18, 1923, being past 80 years of age. He was survived by two children, Fred Felthauser and Mrs. Lena Wegner, both of Nebraska City. A brother and two sisters also survived, Valentine Felthauser, Mrs. Maggie Peterson and Mrs. Anna Robins, all of Nebraska City.
