"Dell" was the oldest child of John Paul Galvin and the only daughter. There were five younger brothers - Michael, John, Leo, Arthur and Charles. Her father ran a fish market and was also an amateur musician who played piano and harmonica - at the same time! He had a band who played at weddings and other occasions.
"Dell" had a severe hearing loss as a result of having scarlet fever as a young child. She always wore a hearing aid device which compensated for her loss and allowed her to lead a normal life.
With the death of her husband she remained in the family home on Fullerton St. until her health deteriorated in November 1988 and she began falling frequently. She entered the Theresian House in Albany for assisted living. She died of complications of peritonitis just before her 83rd birthday. She is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery.
Mary married Joseph John Foster Jr., son of Joseph John Foster Sr. and Mary Agnes Deagan, on 2 Jul 1928 in St. Patrick's Church Albany, NY. (Joseph John Foster Jr. was born on 12 Dec 1902 in Albany, Albany County, New York and died on 16 Feb 1972 in Albany, Albany County, New York.)
