JACQUELYN MAXINE REVERTS was born January 12, 1930 to Aaron and Bertha (Thompson) Straw in the worker's cabin at the Jasper Quarry in Pipestone County, Minnesota. She was raised in Jasper and was confirmed in the Methodist faith in 1942. She attended high school in Jasper until the 11th grade. She then worked as a waitress at the Club Café in Pipestone and paid eight dollars a week in rent to the owners. On July 5, 1947 Jacquelyn was untied in marriage to Harold Richard Neuman at the county courthouse in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Pipestone and then in 1956 moved to Brandon, South Dakota. At that time it was a new addition and only the ninth home built on an alfalfa field on the east side of town. In 1964, Harold was killed in an automobile accident. Jackie continued to reside in Brandon. On January 4, 1965, Jackie married Delmar Lee Reverts at the chapel of the First Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their first home on a farm near Garretson, South Dakota and then moved to other various farms throughout Rock County, Minnesota. The couple separated five years later but Jackie's passion for buying farm property, fixing it up, selling and repeating it continued to last. One of her favorite memories was the snow storms of 1968 and the 100 inches of snow they recorded that year. Being stranded on the farm, she and the kids really got to know each other that winter! In 1972, Jackie moved into Jasper and sold the last of her farms in 1974. She continued working and was employed by Lange's Café in Pipestone, Jr.'s in Jasper, 3-Straw Café in Jasper, the Sunrise Village in Jasper and Super 8 Hotel in Pipestone. She retired in November of 2008 and in June of 2009, she moved to the Tuff Village apartments in Hills, Minnesota. In October 2020, Jackie entered hospice care. On Monday, November 2, 2020 while at the Sanford Luverne Hospital, Luverne, Minnesota, she went to be with her Lord at the age of 90 years, nine months and 20 days.
Jacquelyn credited the soft spot in her heart for civic organizations to her year long stint as a patient of the Shriner's Hospital at the young age of three due to a hip condition. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Eastern Star in Garretson and was a top officer. She was also active in P.T.A., a Cub Scout leader and part of the Ladies Aid in Jasper. She enjoyed life and knew how to find the good in each day. Jacki loved raising her family and had high expectations for her children and was proud of each of them. Her other hobbies included bowling and dancing; she was especially fond of the waltz and polkas. She was a wonderful cook and passed on this talent to her children.
Jacquelyn's life will be celebrated by her three sons: Dennis Neuman of George, Iowa, Regge (Donna) Neuman of Jackson, Minnesota, Robert (Mary) Neuman of Benson, Minnesota; and one daughter, Debra (Arnold) Brondsema of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Donna) Straw of Pipestone, Minnesota; and a sister, Kay (Arlen) Skorr of Mankato, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Neuman; son, Darwin Reverts; and two grandsons, James and Jacob Neuman.
