bullet  General Notes:

1910 Spring, Alfalfa County, OK Chester M. Straw Susan Charles Frank Peter - grandson Mary

0n June 1 1918 he registered for the WWI draft and declared his "parentage unknown".He gave his date of birth as Jan 1st 1897 and gave wife's name as Eliza Straw. His place of residence as Ingersoll, OK and employer as "Verl Aybill?" color of eyes blue; hair light; height listed as tall.

Per research of D. Young I rec'd the following by e-mail July 2006: "I looked through some old e-mails and found this one written to me in 2002 from Rich Nichols. I think Dora and George Nichols were his (Rich's) great-grandparents and he wrote this: "On a piece of paper one of my cousins gave me a half-brother named Pete Straw was mentioned. I don't know if he is a half-brother to my grandfather or if he is a half-brother to Dora. I do have some evidence that suggests that Pete was not Dora's son (my grandfather's half brother), but my grandmother insists that he actually was Dora's son." [Dora is d/o Chester M. Straw and Susan Dawson] Later he writes "It looks like Peter must be Dora's son after all. My grandmother told me this, but I just found it hard to believe. I am guessing what happened was she got pregnant at a early age but never married. (she married George A. Nichols when she was 18) When the baby (Pete) was born Chester and Susan took him in and raised him. Therefore, Pete would have kept the Straw name. Of course, this is just theory, but some of the stories I have heard about Dora makes it not surprising that something like this would have happened. Talk about skeleton's in the closet. She had quite a few." He also sent a photo of Pete on a mule and wrote: 'According to my grandmother, Pete was very tall, almost 7 feet.' "
