Frederic "Fred" E. Jones, 97, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be at 11a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Mary Christopher officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mr. Jones was born June 1, 1901, in Clarkfield, Minn., the son of Benjamin and Florence (Straw) Jones.
He graduated from Bismark High School in Bismark, N.D., and the University of Wisconsin.
He married Pauline (Kemper) Meyer on Oct. 18, 1930, in Platteville, Wis. The couple moved to Sioux City in December 1936. She died May 2, 1985.
He was employed as a manfucturer's representative for Weyerhauser Wood Products until 1966. He was then employed part time with Williams T.V. and Appliance until 93 years of age.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and served as a vestry member. He also was a member of Tyrian Lodge 508 A.F.&A.M.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Benjamin W. and Helen of Glendale, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Bradley W., Martin C. and Matthew F. Jones; a great-grandchild; two stepgrandsons, Duane and David Dykstra; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel F.; two brothers, Donald (Straw) Jones and Benjamin Edwin Jones Jr.; and a sister, Florence Gwendolyn Sollenbarger.
