Matilda Straw-Hopkins was the daughter of Enoch Straw and Betsey Welch. Her family moved from Maine to Dodge County, Wisconsin by 1850 and then on into Story County, Iowa by 1870.
Matilda first married unknown Wilson sometime in 1860 in Wisconsin. They had one son Charles Frank Wilson 1860/1861. I believe that Charles's father was most likely killed in the Civil War.
Matilda married Perry D. Hopkins on 6-3-1868 in Dodge County, Wisconsin. On the record she is listed as Mrs. Matilda Wilson. Matilda and Perry had two sons Dallas Edgar Hopkins 2-15-1872 Story County,Iowa and Bennett Burton Hopkins 3-22-1874 in Colorado.
Matilda divorced Perry D. Hopkins on 5-5-1887 Story County, Iowa. On 10-20-1887 she married Edwin P. Walsworth. By 1895 they were no longer together and she had regained the Hopkins name.
On 7-24-1901 Matilda married Lafayette M. Johnson in Mecosta County, Michigan. Her home at the time of the marriage was Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa and his Big Rapids, Michigan.
By 1907 she was no longer with Lafayette and living with her son Bennett Burton in De Kalb, De Kalb County, Illinois.
Her obit ran Friday September 2, 1910 in the De Kalb Daily Chronicls and is as follows:
Mrs. M. L. Hopkins: Mrs M. L. Hopkins; who has been ill for some time at her home on the D.D. Hunt farm south of the city died at five o'clock this morning at the age of 67. Deceased was born in Portland, Maine, in 1844 and has lived in De Kalb about three years making her home with her son Bert, here.
Mrs. Hopkins leaves tree children, Frank, address unknown, his relatives not having heard from him since the San Francisco earthquake. D. E. Hopkins of Des Moines and Bert of this city. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock from her home on the D.D. Hunt farm south of the city.

Matilda Straw married Perry D. Hopkins about 1870 went to Bolder Colorada , mined the Big Helephant mine at 4 mile creek, Matilda had a son by first marriage a Charles Wilson, they lived there 1873 to May 2 1881 after Perry D. Hopkins died, then she went back to Iowa. (Ancestry.com message board inquiry of Kathleen Hopkins Smith on 7 June 2000)
Matilda Straw-Wilson married 6-30-1868 in Dodge County, Wisconsin to Perry D. Hopkins. The marriage record has Mrs. Matilda B. Wilson to Perry. Matilda divorced Perry in Nevada, Story County, Iowa on 5-5-1887. She then married Edwin Walsworth a habitual drunkard, on 10-29-1887.Matilda's and Edwin's marriage didn't last long. By 1895 they were divorced. He living in Nevada, Story County, Iowa and Matilda Hopkins and her sons Dallas and Bennett living in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa; Matilda regained the name Hopkins.
