Research of Vera Bunger - from Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home: Earl was born September, 30, 1927 in Spring Fountain, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Hazel (Fulcher) Straw. He attended rural country school in Bremer County. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 9, 1945 and served as a Mailman Third Class during World War II until he was honorably discharged on July 21, 1946. On May 8, 1948, at the Little Brown Church, he married Sarah Steadman. The couple initially lived in New Hampton and moved to Lawler in 1950. Earl managed the Blue Ribbon Mill in Lawler and later worked for the Fencl Co. He retired from the Blazek Corporation in Lawler. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and cutting wood. Earl is survived by his wife Sarah, four sons: Dana Straw of Daly City, CA, Edward Straw (Karen) of Lawler, David Straw of Littleton, CO and A. J. Straw (Janelle) of Protivin; five daughters: Karen Huber (Rick), Paula Kout (Leo), Diane Gebel (Bill) and Debra Straw, all of Lawler, Vickie Mracek (Randy) of Provitin. Also 15 granchildren; one brother Merlin (Shorty) Straw (Joan) of New Hampton; two sisters: Vera Bunger and Vivian Volker, both of New Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Danny Earl on 4 September 1968 and a brother Dale Straw.
