(Mongollon Mountain Man; Nat Straw - Grissly Hunter and Trapper by Carolyn O'Bagy Davis; Sanpete Publications; Published 2003; Tucson, AZ) "Three months after Lucy died, her youngest son John Abbott also passed away. John was only 47 years old. Civil court records show that John also suffered from insanity. One month after their mother's death, John was judged insane, with his brother George signing the documents as a witness. A small notice in the local newspaper on February 14, 1914, publicly decreed that those insanity papers had been filed with the county clerk. John died on May 3, 1914, at the Alms House. Perhaps mental illness was a contributor to John's early death, but a newspaper obituary indicated that he had suffered from tuberculosis for a long time, and that was listed as the immediate cause of his demise. John was buried in the family plot at the Maple Park Cemetery."
