WATERVLIET -- Marilyn J. Ostwald, 31, of Eight Avenue, died Sunday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Marilyn was born in Troy on June 10, 1965, a daughter to Joseph H. and Philomena M. Iachetta Ostwald, Sr. She was raised in Watervliet where she resided her entire life and had graduated from Watervliet High School in 1983. She then went on to further her education at Hudson Valley Community College and Maria College. Marilyn had been employed as a beautician and cosmetologist at Alstan's Salon in Latham and also had worked independently from her home. She was also employed in the billing department of Samaritan Hospital in Troy and, for the past ten years, was employed by the New Tork State Department of Transportation in Albany as a secretary. She was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Watervliet. Marilyn enjoyed many things in life but especially enjoyed cross country skiing, shopping and children. The love that she expressed and her ability with children charmed not only the children she touched but also the adults who witnessed her special gifts. She is survived by her beloved mother, Philomena M. Ostwald of Watervliet; her devoted sisters and brother, Barbara Ostwald of Colorado, Mary Katherine Ostwald of Troy, Rosemary Ostwald of Watervliet, Patricia Ostwald of Copper Mountain, CO and Joseph Ostwald of Portland, ME; her devoted brothers and sister-in-law, Lloyd Wulf, Richard McDermott and Ann Ostwlad; her cherished nieces, Rosemary Wulf, Claire and Madeleine Ostwald and Ailie McDermott and her loving friend, Joe McLean. Marilyn's father, Joseph H. Ostwald Sr., passed away in 1985. She leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Parker Bros Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Friends are invited and may also call on Tuesday from 4-8:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Albany or to a favorite charity of one's choice in Marilyn's memory. 'Marilyn was a courageous woman who struggled with cancer using traditional and very beneficial alternative treatments. Marilyn's family wishes to thank all those who helped in so many ways'.
