Gwendolyn (Gwen) Jones was the third child born to Benjamin and Florence Jones on July 29, 1906 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She had three brothers Frederick Edwin (1901-1999) and Donald (1904-1975) and Benjamin Edwin Jr. (1919-1944).
In Bismarck high school, Gwen was the vice president of her senior class and the president of the French club. Like her brother Don, Gwen had a flair for the written word. She worked on high school year book The Prairie Breezes as editor in chief.
Gwen went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison in the fall of 1924. She was a member of the social sorority Delta Delta Delta. After two years she returned to Bismarck, because her father had financial difficulties. She worked for the state highway department as a writer/editor until 1929.
Gwen went to Chicago in 1929 and began her career in the publishing industry. She began dating Earl Hagler Sollenbarger, who was one of her brother's roommates. They were married in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1933. Their first child, Susan was born in 1936 and the son, Thomas, was born in 1941. The family lived in Blue Island, Illinois.
Gwen returned to the publishing work world in the 1950s - first with her old employer the NAMC then as the editor for Woodall's Trailer Travels magazine – and retired in the late 1960's. She was active her local Episcopal Parrish and was the President of the Blue Island Woman's club.
She is buried next to her husband, Earl, in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Blue Island, Illinois.
